The attention of curious onlookers in central Tel Aviv was drawn on Thursday to a red Ford pickup truck with Qatari license plates, the Hebrew news site Ynet reported.

The vehicle, the report said, was spotted outside The Norman hotel, close to Rothschild Boulevard.

It turned out the truck had been rented in Qatar by a father-and-son pair of Norwegian tourists for a Middle East road trip that took them from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea, via Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Israel and Qatar do not maintain official diplomatic relations, but there have been some trade ties, as well as behind-the-scenes contacts in other realms, over the past two decades.
