Jerusalem - The Israeli military says a rocket from the Gaza Strip has been fired at Israel.

In a statement, it said the rocket appeared to have landed in an open area Monday evening. The rocket caused air raid sirens to go off in several communities, but there were no reports of injuries.

At the beginning of the month the IDF deployed an Iron Dome missile defense system battery in the southern city of Beersheba.
