Amid escalating terror attacks in Jerusalem, Boys Town Jerusalem closed school at 1:30 PM Thursday and dismissed over 900 students to their homes.

The closure at Boys Town comes in conjunction with a strike called by parents at high schools throughout Israel’s capital. Sanctioned by Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, the strike is in protest to increasing shortages in funding for school guards. Budgetary constrictions on the national level have resulted in significant cuts in the hours that security guards are present at schools.

Against the backdrop of the deteriorating security situation, Boys Town Jerusalem Administrator Natan Tal noted that faculty members are working closely with the school’s social services team to be alert for and to assist students in emotional distress.
