Jerusalem, Israel - Sept. 21, 2015 - In a corner of the grounds of Beit Hanassi, the Israeli President's Official Residence, is a small synagogue. On Monday through Thursday there are regular Shachris minyanim, attended by staff and a few regulars in the neighborhood.
On Sunday night, September 20, a special Selichos service was held with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin in attendance and an overflow crowd standing and seated outside the building. Staff members even brought their children. Yitzhak Meir, with musical accompaniment, led the Selichos which filled the Presidential Gardens with beautiful melodies.
When I told my taxi driver where I was going, he smiled and said, "ah, a man of the People."
