Jerusalem, Israel - Mar. 30, 2017 - A Festival Matzah B'Kikar, was held in Kikar Safra, Jerusalem's Government Square, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. Entertainers were dressed in old costumes, one could have been a young Tevya the milkman.
The public was invited to come and make matzah. Strict rules were followed for entering the tent and preparing the matzah. Four matzah ovens were going, as young workers baked the matzos, rushing to put the dough in and take the baked matzah out.
Boxes of shurma matzah were piled ready for those participating to take home.
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat put on an apron and baked matzah near the end of the festival event. Barkat broke a baked matzah and recited the bracha for lehafrish challah.
Advertising for the festival was in Hebrew. Lines were short and weather perfect this year. Many more should have participated in the matzah baking fun and mitzvah.
