IAF aircraft launch an airstrike on a military compound in central Gaza, in retaliation for rocket attack on Gaza Belt.

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) on Sunday night launched an airstrike on a military compound belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization in central Gaza, the IDF Spokesperson said in a statement.

The attack was in retaliation for Sunday evening’s rocket attack on the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council in southern Israel.

"The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for the Gaza Strip and will continue to act firmly to maintain quiet in the towns of southern Israel," according to the IDF statement.

The rocket which was fired at southern Israel on Sunday evening exploded in an open area in the Gaza Belt area, causing no physical injuries or damages.

A Salafi organization affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the rocket attack.
