Jerusalem - Two people were lightly wounded Monday after reportedly being stabbed near the light rail on Hayim Barlev Street in Jerusalem.

Magen David Adom paramedics were providing initial treatment at the scene before taking the victims to Hadassah University Medical Center on Jerusalem’s Mount Scopus for further medical treatment.

One of the victims was a 20-year-old woman who was lightly wounded in her foot while the second victim was a 29-year-old man suffering from shock, according MDA.

An Israel Police spokesperson said the incident began when two police officers approached a man near the light rail who was acting suspiciously. The suspect then pulled out a knife and unsuccessfully tried to stab the officers before running away.

The officers chased after the man, still holding the knife in his hand. They fired at his lower extremities and successfully stopped him from continuing his rampage and potentially wounding others.

The attack comes one day after an unidentified gunman shot and moderately wounded a female IDF soldier at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron on Sunday. There were unconfirmed suspicions that the fire was carried out by a sniper from a nearby rooftop.
