Jerusalem, Israel - Dec. 14, 2015 - Tourists and holiday celebrants did not flock to Jerusalem, Israel, in huge numbers as in recent years. Cold weather, the security situation and heavy rain kept Hanukkah visitors away from the Old City and other tourist locations.

However, for the eight days of Hanukkah there were traditional hanukkiot at the Kotel and Jaffa Gate and at hundreds of public places. Electric light menorahs were in front of Beit Hanasi and on top of the Knesset, and lit for each night of Hanukkah.

Hanukkah fried food, sufganiot, latkes and so much more, consumed over the eight days at parties and family gatherings. Large concerts and music at the Arena Stadium and smaller community events were held.

A new colorful hanukkia was installed near center of town. A huge screen flashed photos in Zion Square from those around the world who submitted their pictures to a special Facebook group.

Chabad had hanukkiot in too many locations to list, and of course, also on top of cars. Restaurants and shops had candle lighting. Yeshivas and homes placed their lights out on the streets or in open windows that are usually closed off from view.

A new light and sound projection near Jaffa Gate was special enough that we have provided a video clip with some of the Hanukkah music.

Not able to be in Jerusalem to celebrate the holiday of lights this year? Consider being next year in Jerusalem for Hanukkah.
