Jerusalem, Israel - Oct. 22, 2018 - Wednesday evening October 22nd, over 225 teens, parents and grandparents watched the Israel premiere of 'Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age' hosted by Kav L’Noar, at Beit Avi Chai in Jerusalem, Israel.  Following the screening of the informational video, an important question and answer session was led by popular local psychiatrist Jennie Goldstein, M.D.

Screenagers is a documentary made by Stanford-trained physician and award-winning filmmaker Dr. Delaney Ruston.  By turning the camera on her own children as well as many other teenagers, parents, psychologists and neurologists, Screenagers explores how screen time impacts child development and offers guidance to parents to help their children navigate the digital world. It has been screened more than 6,000 times to two million people in more than 50 countries around the world, but this was the first showing in Israel.

Although the film is about technology, as Dr. Goldstein noted, “this movie, at its core, is really about parenting.” She emphasized "facing the challenge of screen addiction requires taking time to notice what is happening, to stop and reflect and communicate and think together."

Kav L’Noar is a Jerusalem based non-profit organization, founded 13 years ago by Dr. Ronald Wachtel, which provides subsidized counselling and mentoring services to teens and their families. Part of its mission also includes community education. Hosting the documentary film was part of its ongoing commitment to empowering local parents with modern parenting tools.

Kav L’Noar’s clinical supervisor Rina Berkus told the audience, "most of the teenagers and most of the parents that we are working with have some issue with screen overuse…for adolescents today, even if you’re in a school that doesn’t allow phones and have parents that don’t allow phones, your  friend has a phone and videos that you could never see at home you could see with your friend...families have to find a way of recognizing that it’s there and something to be dealt with."

The program was sponsored by Norman Blaustein, dedicated in memory of his wife Sara Blaustein HY'D
