Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, visited the Sorek desalination plant, the largest of its kind in the world. Construction of the facility began in January 2011, and in August 2013 began production capacity of 624,000 water cubic meters of water a day. Today there are five water desalination plants, which produce about 80% of water consumption for domestic use in the country.

During his tour of the desalination plant, which is owned by IDE Technologies and Hutchison Water Corporation, the company's chairman Avshalom Felber, explained the process of water desalination facility. The President was given an overview on the Israeli water economy and significant place in the world, and was presented with groundbreaking Israeli technology companies Fluence And Utilis . Also, on the tour of the facility were Oded Distel and Water Authority Director Giora Shaham.

At the end of the tour, all were given a glass of desalinated water, and the president said admiringly, "We are now drinking water that 45 minutes earlier had live fish of sea in it, the wonders of technology!" 

Director of the Water Authority Shaham added, "One of the main objectives of the Water Authority is to leverage the reputation of Israel in the planning, development and management of the Israeli water economy a powerful growth engine of Israel. The way to this goal is by building an organizational infrastructure that will enable the Water Authority to develop Israel's relations with governments and thus allow Israeli technologies also break some new markets."
