At least 200 people were killed late Sunday in the powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake that hit the Sulamaniya province in northeastern Iraq, near the border with Iran.
In Iraq, the number of casualties stands at a minimum of 30 dead and 300 injured. in Iran the number of those killed is about 200 and more than 1,500 injured. There have already been over 50 aftershocks.

The earthquake was also felt in Israel. Many citizens from Haifa to Beersheva reported feeling the ground tremble, but B’chasdei Hashem, with a lower intensity and without casualties. The tremor was felt in Tel Aviv, Petach Tikva, Holon, Rishon L’Tzion, Haifa and Beersheva.

In Baghdad, the capital of Iran, the quake was felt for about 20 seconds. Majida Amir told the media: “I was sitting at dinner with my children and suddenly the building started to dance, I thought at first that it was a huge bomb, but then I heard everyone around me shouting that it was an earthquake.”

In Teheran, Iran also registered panic and eight nearby villages were cut off from electricity. In the provinces of Kermanshah and Ilam the schools will remain closed. The residents slept in the parks as a precautionary measure.
