One of Crayola's signature crayon colors is headed for retirement.

For the first time in its 100-plus year history, Crayola is discontinuing a color from its iconic 24-count box. The announcement will be made Friday, March 31 - National Crayon Day. You can tune in live from Times Square starting at 8:15 a.m. ET.

The current 24-box line up is: red, yellow, blue, brown, orange, green, violet, black, carnation pink, yellow orange, blue green, red violet, red orange, yellow green, blue violet, white, violet red, dandelion, cerulean, apricot, scarlet, green yellow, indigo and gray.

The Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania-based company said after Friday, no more crayons in the retiring shade will be produced and it will only be available in the boxes already on the shelf. Crayola said the old shade will be replaced but hasn't provided information on what the new color will be.

The move marks the first time Crayola has retired a color from its 24 count back. In 1990, it discontinued green blue, orange red, orange yellow, violet blue, maize, lemon yellow, blue gray, and raw umber from its larger boxes and and another four - blizzard blue, magic mint, teal blue, and mulberry -0 as part of its 2003 Save the Shade contest.
