A Johns Hopkins student was found dead across the street from the Homewood campus Thursday morning.

Baltimore police say officers responded at around 8 a.m. to the 3700 block of North Charles Street. The incident remains under investigation and her cause of death has not yet been determined.

Police say there were no obvious signs of foul play.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Johns Hopkins University officials identified the student as 19-year-old Abigail Bastien of Sandusky, Ohio.

University officials said in an email to the community that the rising sophomore was working this summer in the School of Medicine's cell biology department. They said she was a sprinter on the track and field team.

"On behalf of the entire Johns Hopkins community, we offer our deepest sympathies to Abby’s family and friends," wrote Kevin G. Shollenberger, vice provost for student affairs, and Toni Blackwell, senior associate dean of student life.

Information on memorial arrangements will be provided to the university community when it becomes available, and campus counselors and ministries staff are being made available.
