Baltimore, MD - Aug. 14, 2022 - While "sof-zman" is unfortunately infamous for its laxity in year-end learning and growth, at Mesivta Shaarei Chaim the opposite was achieved by pushing down harder on the gas!
The last incredible two and a half weeks of the school year 5782 were spent on the sprawling, beautiful grounds of the Middle Creak Retreat Center of Airville, PA. The serenity and exhilaration that such a setting fostered, coupled with Siyatta D’Shmaya, produced sedarim and tefillos that were unparalleled, and Shabbosos that were really מעין עולם הבא! It was a tremendous nachas to see bachurim shteig, displaying much simcha and enthusiasm down to the final hours.
In addition, the achdus and connection formed with Rabbeim and friends was priceless. The ...

Attorney General Merrick Garland reportedly waited weeks to approve the search warrant of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago private residence.
While the establishment media suggested “classified documents relating to nuclear weapons were among the items the FBI” sought in the raid of Mar-a-Lago, it took weeks for Garland to make up his mind on whether to approve the warrant, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
“The decision had been the subject of weeks of meetings between senior Justice Department and FBI officials, the people said,” the Journal reported. “The warrant allowed agents last Monday to seize classified information and other presidential material from Mar-a-Lago.”

Germany’s ambassador to Israel, Steffen Seibert, on Tuesday condemned Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas who accused Israel of committing “holocausts” against Palestinian Arabs during a meeting in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“What President Abbas said in Berlin about ‘50 holocausts’ is wrong and unacceptable,” he tweeted.
“Germany will never stand for any attempt to deny the singular dimension of the crimes of the Holocaust,” stressed Seibert.
Earlier, Prime Minister Yair Lapid blasted Abbas over the comments, saying, “Mahmoud Abbas accusing Israel of having committed ‘50 Holocausts’ while standing on German soil is not only a moral disgrace, but a monstrous lie.&rdq...
Harriet Hageman has defeated pro-impeachment House Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, vice-chair of the Jan. 6 committee, in the GOP primary race to represent Wyoming's at-large congressional district.
Cheney was the most senior of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump on a charge of inciting the deadly attack on the Capitol, which was waged by right-wing extremists and other Trump supporters who aimed to disrupt congressional certification of President Biden’s Electoral College victory in the 2020 election.
The conservative lawmaker and defense hawk immediately came under verbal attack from Trump and his allies, and in May of last year, she was ousted from her number-three House GOP leadership position.
Cheney has been vocal in e...
Prime Minister Yair Lapid on Tuesday blasted Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas, after Abbas accused Israel of committing “holocausts” against Palestinian Arabs during a meeting in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“Mahmoud Abbas accusing Israel of having committed ‘50 Holocausts’ while standing on German soil is not only a moral disgrace, but a monstrous lie,” Lapid said.
“Six million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust, including one and a half million Jewish children. History will never forgive him,” he added.
The statement came after Abbas accused Israel of committing multiple "holocausts" during a speech alongside Scholz in Berlin.
Abbas used the English word "holocausts" when responding to a questio...

Baltimore, MD - Aug. 16, 2022 - A Maryland father and son will bike 100 miles to raise money for Chai Lifeline, an organization that supports sick children and their families.
The Bike 4 Chai ride starts in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania and continues into New York. While biking 100 miles isn't easy, Ben and Yogi Weiskind said the reason behind their long ride makes it all worthwhile.
As the duo train for a very long ride, they have a special young lady in mind.
"About eight years ago, Yogi's sister, our daughter Sarah, had a heart transplant, and for a child at the age of 10, to have a heart transplant is pretty traumatic," said Ben Weiskind. Read more at WBALTV

Last night, Yael Shevach, who lost her husband in a terrorist attack, wrote me the following:"This is the season for weddings, and I have just returned from a wedding -- but unlike any I had ever attended. Ephraim Rimel lost his wife Tzipi and his little girl three years ago in an accident caused by a Palestinian who was driving at an excessive rate of speed on Highway 443. Ephraim was left paralyzed from the waist down. Ayelet Coleman lost her husband Adiel in a terrorist attack. Those are the two people who were married tonight.Under the chuppah, Ayelet sat on a chair because Ephraim is confined to a wheelchair. She simply sat next to him throughout the ceremony, and that said so much. A multitude of friends and family had gathered to dance in their honor. It was amazing to me to see tha...

Some two-thirds of the world could starve to death in the event of a nuclear war between Russia and the United States, according to a Rutgers University-led study published Monday. Nuclear conflict would lead to “catastrophic” disruptions in food supplies, as sun-blocking soot and ash wilt crops around the world, researchers wrote in the peer-reviewed study published in the journal Nature Food.
Even a smaller-scale nuclear war between Pakistan and India would devastate food supplies, slash global production by 7% within five years and kill up to 2.5 billion people. Food insecurity in these cases would be deadlier than the nuclear blasts, the study predicts.
“The data tell us one thing: We must prevent a nuclear war from ever happening,” climate scientist Alan Robo...
Earlier this year, families around the world lamented the shortage of baby formula, which left many bereft of the nutritional staple. While global supply and prices of infant formula have since begun stabilizing, thousands of Israeli families are still struggling to meet the cost of the critical natal foodstuff. This has led the National Food Security Initiative, funded by the Welfare Ministry together with long-standing charity Colel Chabad, to launch an initiative to provide and deliver baby formula to the homes of families in need.
Baby formula is one of the most commonly shoplifted items, according to data presented at the announcement of the initiative’s new phase. This illustrates the critical role that baby formula plays in family life, and the desperation of less-f...
Jews who travel to Uman in Ukraine to pray at the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Breslev on Rosh Hashana will be risking their lives, Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk warned on Monday.
“Rosh Hashana is coming and no matter what we say, Orthodox Jews will try to get to Uman again,” Korniychuk lamented in an interview from his Tel Aviv office. “We understand your willingness to go to Uman and favor your support for Ukraine, but this is not the right time. We cannot guarantee your security.”
Korniychuk said that last year, over 30,000 Breslev hassids came, mostly from Israel but also from the US, UK and France, and a similarly large gathering this year would attract attention from the Russian Army, which could attack the pilgrimage site.

Invasive spotted lanternflies, first discovered eight years ago in Pennsylvania and confirmed in Maryland, appear to be moving westward into the central United States, with new reports filed with the state agriculture departments this year in Iowa and Michigan.
But Maryland still plays an important role in stopping the pest, which can devastate grapes, hops and other crops.
Spotted lanternflies were confirmed in Kansas in 2021 and in North Carolina earlier this year. States farther west, including Utah, California and Oregon, have observed dead lanternflies, though it's unclear if the plant hoppers naturally migrated there, or hitched a ride with humans.
Even in states where infestations or dead lanternflies haven't been found, landscape...

The diagnosis comes after her husband, President Biden, recently tested positive for COVID-19.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said "the President tested negative for COVID this morning on an antigen test.
