CIA Director Mike Pompeo met with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and Palestinian intelligence service chief Majed Farij on Tuesday evening in Ramallah. During the meeting, the two discussed the two-state solution, security matters and the Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

The meeting took place just a day before U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to the Palestinian news agency Ma’an, the three discussed security and political matters ahead of the Israeli-American Washington meeting. In addition, it was reported by the news agency that Farij said: “The meeting was beneficial and positive and during it, we discussed important issues including the two-state solution, the security situation in the region and the danger that the construction in the settlements poses.”

Senior Palestinian security sources told Israel Radio last night’s meeting between Abbas and Pompeo was the second in recent weeks, with the first one taking place at the start of this month.
