Jerusalem, Israel - Jan. 3, 2017 - In June 1967, his father excitedly called him while away on a trip to the United States to tell him, "Har Habayis is ours!" After 19 years of Jordanian occupation Israeli Defense Force soldiers had reentered the Old City. "I know," responded Avraham Duvdevani, "I was there."

The World Zionist Organization (WZO) is holding its 14th Conference for Rabbis and Diaspora World Community Leaders at the Ramada Hotel in Jerusalem, Israel, from January 2-4. On Monday night, a special evening program was open to the public.

With the start of 2017, celebrations and commemorations are being held to mark the fifty-year anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem. The WZO evening featured a panel honoring Duvdevani and other IDF veterans who fought in the 1967 War, Didia Gutal, Yehuda KandelMoshe Milo, and Yoram Zamush. Zamush, who personally hung the Israeli flag on Har Habayis, presented slides showing the entry of the soldiers through the Lions' Gate.

Israeli Journalist Sivan Rahav Meir moderated the program and panel. Words of welcome were offered by Rabbi Yehiel Wasserman of WZO and Chagit Moshe from the Jerusalem Municipality and Mayor's Office.

The Ramatayim Men's Choir of Jerusalem performed a special repertoire, conducted by Richard Shavei-Tzion and featuring Chief IDF Chazan Shai Abramson. The musical selections were performed throughout the evening. The program concluded with the tefilah for Israel soldiers, followed by the singing of Hatikvah.:
