Iran is expected to skip a retaliatory strike on Israel if a Gaza ceasefire deal is reached, US President Joe Biden told reporters in New Orleans on Tuesday, stressing “That’s my expectation.”
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant left nothing to chance, stating in northern Israel that the IDF is prepared for defensive and offensive actions against Hezbollah and Iran, even as the United States pinned its hope for averting a regional war on Thursday’s hostage talks in Doha.A hostage and Gaza ceasefire agreement would more “broadly, create conditions for diplomacy to get the region out of this cycle of violence,”
US State Department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters in Washington on Tuesday.Three senior Iranian officials told Re...
Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minn., faces fresh controversy after a resurfaced 2018 video showed him praising a Muslim cleric, who once shared a pro-Hitler propaganda film and celebrated Oct. 7, as a "master teacher."
In the last few years, Imam Asad Zaman has used his Facebook page to share official Hamas press releases, blog posts from antisemitic sites and a 2015 link to a pro-Hitler film, "The Greatest Story Never Told." Zaman also posted on Oct. 7 that he and his organization "stands in solidarity with Palestinians against Israeli attacks."
On Fox News’ "Outnumbered," Chicago-based correspondent Mike Tobin reported on The Washington Examiner unearthing a video of Walz speaking at an event hosted by Zaman's group, the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, on Feb. 16, 2018...
Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn, was able to avoid the recent fate of some of her other "Squad" members in Congress, coming away with the win in the Democrat primary for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District on Tuesday.
The race featured another member of the so-called "Squad" facing off with a primary challenger, with Don Samuels, Abena McKenzie and Nate Schluter looking to make Omar the third member of the progressive group to lose a primary challenge in this cycle.
The race featured a rematch between Omar and Samuels, who the incumbent representative narrowly escaped losing to in a 2022 primary challenge, inching out a win over Samuels by just under two percentage points before easily coasting to re-election in November.
The Democrat primary in Minnesota’s 5th Congressi...
BaltimoreJewishLife.com (BJL) is proud to partner with STAR-K CERTIFICATION that realizes that there is no substitute for a person’s own Rav. In an effort to offer a possible solution, it has launched its Institute of Halachah as a public service. Over the years, the agency’s Kashrus Hotline has answered generic halachic questions from kosher consumers the world over, including inquiries regarding the kosher status of foods and certified Sabbath mode appliances. The formation of a separate official division within STAR-K testifies to the need for addressing these issues.
The Institute of Halachah is directed by HaRav Mordechai Frankel, under the guidance of HaRav Moshe Heinemann, STAR-K’s Rabbinic Administrator. It is an invaluable resource for a diverse array of rabbis to discuss general halachic matters, as well as gain access to source materials for shiurim and answers to congregants’ questions.
Shailos for regular or Kashrus shailos may emailed or discussed using this widget.

During the Second Temple, the Greek empire reigned (over Israel),1 and they (the Greeks) passed decrees against the Jews and (tried) to erase their religion, and did not allow them to carry out Torah (study) or the commandments. They put their hands on their property and their daughters. They entered the Temple, destroyed and made the pure unclean. The Jews were in great distress because of them and were much oppressed, until the G-d of their fathers had mercy on them, delivering them from their hands and saving them. Then overcame, the sons of the Hasmonean High Priest, (the Greeks) and killed them and saved the Jews from their hands. They appointed a king from the Priests, and the kingdom of Israel was restored for more than 200 years until the destruction of (the) second (Temple). When the Jews overcame their enemies and destroyed them, it was the 25th of Kislev2 when they entered the Sanctuary (inner room) and did not find pure (olive) oil in the Temple, except one jar sealed with seal of the High Priest, and it did not contain enough to light except for one day only. But they lit from it the lamps of the Menorah3 for eight days, until they could crush olives and produce a (new quantity) of pure oil. For these reasons, decreed the Sages of that generation that these eight days that begin on the 25th Kislev, will be days of joy and praise. One lights on them lamps at evening at the entrance to the houses, every evening of the eight nights to show off and demonstrate the miracle. These days are called ''Hanukah'' that is to say ''they rested'' (chanu) on the ''25'' ('th of the month) because on the 25th they rested from their enemies. and also because of those days they (re)-dedicated the house (Temple) which their foes had defiled. Also some say that it is a commandment to increase slightly the festive meals on Hanukah. Another reason is because the work of (building) the Sanctuary (in the desert) was completed in these days. One should tell one's children the story of the miracles that were done for our fore-fathers in those days, (see Josephus) However, these meals are not considered as part of the commandment unless one says at the meal songs of praise. One should increase charity in these Hanukah days, for this can help mend any defects in our souls. This charity, should be given particularly to poor Torah scholars. (KSA 139:1) 1) 352 BCE until 70 CE 2) 139 BCE 3) The Menorah was made of gold and had seven branches.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency, part of the U.S. Department of Defense, notified Congress on Tuesday that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken had approved five potential sales to Israel—collectively worth up to $20.3 billion—of tactical vehicles, mortar and tank cartridges, missiles and F-15 fighter jets.
The sale of F-15IA and F-15I+ aircraft “and related equipment” costs up to $18.82 billion, according to the agency. Israel has requested to buy 50 new F-15IA jets, which are made by Boeing, the agency said.
“The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to U.S. national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability. This proposed sale is consistent with those object...
A new Inspector General report confirmed that the City of Baltimore returned more than $10 million to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The $10.8 million returned to HUD stemmed from a combination of underspending and a lack of timely drawdowns, the statement said.
A complaint was initially filed in July 2023 alleging the return in grant funding.
A response from the Mayor's office as well as a planned strategy to avoid a similar situation in the future is included with the attached report.
Renew Baltimore filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of Maryland to reverse a decision on whether a property tax rate cut can be on the November ballot.
Renew Baltimore has proposed a gradual cut of Baltimore City’s property tax rate over a seven-year period from 2.2% to 1.2%. The petition received enough signatures to appear on the ballot in November.
However, the Baltimore City Board of Elections rejected the proposal citing that according to Maryland law, only elected leaders can change property tax rates.
A complaint was filed with the Baltimore City Circuit in July. The Circuit Court judge sided with the City on Friday.

The Kotel Plaza was filled with men and women to hear Eicha, sung in the Ashkenazi and Sephardi melodies. Sitting on the ground on stones or low stools, slow sad songs went on for hours as more people arrived well past midnight.
Every year in Yerushalayim Eicha is read in thousands of synagogues and various locations. New this year near Balfour Street, Eicha was read to support hostage families.

A courier with the military wing of Hamas passed on information to the IDF that helped in the elimination of Mohammed Deif, the head of Hamas’ military wing, Al-Arabiya reported on Monday.
According to the report, the courier revealed the location where Deif and Rafa’a Salameh had met before their elimination and delivered to Israel complete maps showing the locations of tunnels and weaponry in Rafah.
The report also said that the courier would pass messages from Hamas’ Rafah Brigade commander, Muhammad Shabana, to the other leaders of the organization and thus discovered the location of Deif in a compound west of Khan Yunis and revealed it to Israel.
Al-Arabiya also stated that, in the wake of these conclusions, it was decided that the internal app...
