A TV reporter for an Iranian news outlet has been arrested in the Golan Heights on terror suspicions. Bassem Safadi is suspected of disseminating information promoting terror, which falls under an law forbidding incitement to violence of terror, according to a police statement.
According to Iran’s Al-Alam’s news site, the outlet’s Bassam Safadi was arrested at his home and his further whereabouts were unknown.
Al-Alam reported that following Safadi’s arrest, his wife spoke with the news site and claimed that the “Zionist soldiers confiscated his equipment without giving any explanation.”
As Al-Alam’s correspondent in the Golan Heights, Safadi prepared influential reports about the region. One of his reports that attracted international attention alleging that “Israeli authorities steal the Golan’s oil.”
This purported arrest was not the first such incident reported by Al-Alam.
In 2009, the outlet said that Israeli police arrested Khadar Shaheen, the Iranian channel’s correspondent in Jerusalem, after he prepared a special report about the results of the recent Operation Cast Lead in Gaza.
