Jerusalem, Israel - May 10, 2016 - Beit Hanasi, the Israeli President's official residence in Jerusalem, is being spruced up for Yom Ha'atzmaut celebrations to be held on the grounds on Thursday. Flowers were planted to form a 68, in honor of Israel's 68 years.The floral display located near the entrance will great the invited guests, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Painting, polishing, and a dress rehearsal for the official televised ceremony, where 120 Israeli military members will receive special honors, took place on Tuesday.

Among those receiving awards were IDF soldiers with disabilities, three young soldiers were in wheel chairs and did practice marching onto the stage. Some faces of soldiers were not to be photographed and shown, but BJL met and spoke with one lone soldier from the US who agreed to pose for a few photos.

Miriam Yablon from Denver, Colorado, studied at Midreshet Lindenbaum. At Bar Ilan University she met her husband, Ben Yablon, also a lone soldier from Portland, Oregon. Miriam, who serves in the Air Force, says she knew in high school that she wanted to live in Israel.

President Reuven Rivlin came out to the gardens during the rehearsal to share warm greetings and express thanks from all Israelis, to those serving in the Israeli Defense Services.

The rehearsal is held two days in advance, as 8:00 pm on Tuesday night is start of Yom Hazikaron.

The official day, set to remember fallen soldiers and victims of terror, goes through Wednesday, with memorial ceremonies in communities and military cemeteries throughout the country. 

From the mourning of Yom Hazikaron, Israelis at sunset, Wednesday night, will switch to celebrating Israel Independence Day and 68 years.
