Jerusalem, Israel - Apr. 17 2016 - Pharaoh in Canaan: The Untold Story is a new exhibit at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Opening in time for Pesach, this impressive collection, with hundreds of pieces and artifacts, presents the connection between Egypt and Canaan. It emphasizes the Egyptian Empire in the 4th century BCE, as maritime trade was expanding in the Ancient Near East.

From tiny pieces of pottery, to jewelry, to a reconstruction of a gateway facade from fragments of a monumental gateway facade inscribed with Ramesses II, from a fortress in Jaffa, dated to 1279-1212 BCE., the exhibit fills multiple rooms. Audiovisual programs are included. The exhibit can be enjoyed on multiple levels, by young and old. Explanations are written in Hebrew, Arabic and English for each section, but patience and time is required to appreciate the extent of the display, will pieces on loan from leading foreign galleries.

The exhibit is to run through the summer and end after Sukkos. As we prepare for Pesach, learning more of the Egyptian Dynasties and rulers takes on special significance.
