Jerusalem Israel - Apr. 13, 2016 - Beit Hanasi, the Israeli President's Residence, was site of a special memorial and award ceremony on Sunday afternoon, the beginning of Chodesh Nisan. Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and his wife Nechama, were joined by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Head of Israeli Supreme Court Miriam Naor, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, Jerusalem Chief Rabbi Aryeh Stern and other dignitaries.
The program began with Rav Stern reciting a pasuk tehiliim and leading the kaddish tzibur.
The ceremony honored past deceased presidents and prime ministers, but featured former President Chaim Weizmann z"l and former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon z'l.
The President's Prize went to students of Eshel Hanasi High School in Rehovot, for their work at Weizmann House at Weizmann Institute, to research and remember Chaim Weizmann z"l.
President Rivlin spoke, short biographical video presentations were shown, also musical interludes were in the program.
The Prime Minister's Prize was presented to Dr. Efrat Zakbach. Zakbach did her Bar Ilan doctoral thesis on Ariel Sharon , "The Myth of Unit 101, Development of Memory in Israeli Society." Zakbach family members were in the audience, some of her eight children, including the baby.
Prime Minister Netanyahu was the final speaker and reflected on Sharon's career and varied roles in the establishment of Israel.
The singing of Hatikvah concluded the program.
