Jerusalem - Over three thousand people were present in Dimona on Monday at the funeral of Simcha Damri, who was killed in a suicide bombing in Istanbul on the weekend.

Damri was one of five people killed in the attack that was carried out by a member of ISIS in a central commercial area of Istanbul on Saturday. Three of those killed in the attack were Israelis.

Her daughter Adi tearfully eulogized her mother, reading a statement written by Damri’s husband Avi: “I don’t know what happened, I only know that the world is complicated. We planned your 60th birthday together….I will remain strong for you, and take care of our family.”

Avi Damri, who was moderately wounded in the attack, was unable to be at the funeral. He was evacuated from Istanbul to Soroka University Medical Center for treatment after the attack.

The Mayor of Dimona, Benny Biton, also mourned Damri’s passing.

“The residents of the city will confirm that Simcha was a righteous woman that dedicated her life to doing good deeds. She had a good heart,” Biton said.

The attack, in which 36 people were wounded, took place on the popular Istiklal pedestrian mall.

Turkish authorities identified the suicide bomber behind the attack as a member of Islamic State born in the southern Turkish city of Gaziantep, Interior Minister Efkan Ala said on Sunday.

The attack was similar to a January suicide bombing in another tourist area of Istanbul. In the previous attack, which the Turkish government attributed to the Islamic State, a pedestrian suicide bomber blew himself up among a group of German tourists near the city’s historic center.

Saturday’s suicide bombing was the fourth such attack in Turkey this year, bringing the death toll to more than 80. Responsibility for the past two attacks, both suicide car bombings in the capital Ankara, was claimed by a PKK offshoot.
