Jerusalem - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may not travel to Washington DC later this month to address the annual American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

Netanyahu had never committed to the trip.

Israeli officials on Sunday night said, “at the moment, the thinking is not to go to AIPAC,” particularly in light of US Vice President Joe Biden’s anticipated two-day visit to Israel on Tuesday.

At the moment the thinking is not to go to AIPAC, “First of all Joe Biden is here this week and many of the issues will be discussed with him. Secondly America is in the middle of a presidential campaign and many of the candidates [are likely to] be speaking at AIPAC. They will be asking for meetings. We think that at this stage it is not wise to get involved [in the US elections.],” the official said.

Netanyahu has skipped traveling to AIPAC twice since taking office, once in 2009 and another in 2013.

AIPAC is taking place this year on March 20 to 22. US President Barack Obama will be visiting Cuba on March 21 to 22.

A final decision on the AIPAC trip has yet to be made.
