Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton accused President Donald Trump of losing sight of his responsibilities to the American people, calling him “unhinged” and saying he is increasingly focused on projects and tributes to himself.

During an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Clinton was asked how Trump has changed since their 2016 presidential race. She said that at the time, Trump had a clearer political strategy and advisers who could push back against his decisions.

“Look, I think that he’s lost the plot,” Clinton said. “Back in 2016, ten years ago, think about that, he had a theory of the case. He knew how he wanted to present himself. He had people around him who at least had some ability to rein him in or to say no to him. He’s totally unfettered and unhinged now.”

Clinton pointed to Trump's recent focus on renovations and construction projects in Washington, including work at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, plans for a new ballroom at the White House and a proposed arch near Arlington National Cemetery.

“He is so focused on himself,” Clinton said. “He wants to build tributes to himself, in the image of himself.”

She argued that these projects reflect a broader shift in Trump's priorities, saying, “I mean, he’s truly lost the plot of being president for the American people.”

Trump, meanwhile, defended the work at the Reflecting Pool during his appearance there, highlighting the improvements made to the landmark. He also joked about the possibility of the pool eventually bearing his name, before clarifying that he was not serious.

Clinton also raised concerns about Trump's actions following the November 3 midterm elections. She said she worries that he could become even more “out of control” and pointed to Congress, the courts and state attorneys general as important checks on presidential power.
