Baltimore, MD – Aug. 13, 2026 – (BJL) Rabbi Yissachar Hauer will begin serving as Rav of The New Shul this Shabbos, Parshas Shoftim, marking an exciting new chapter for the rapidly growing kehillah.

Rabbi Hauer is the son of the venerated Baltimore Rav, Harav Moshe Hauer, zt”l, and Rebbetzin Mindi Hauer. A caring and thoughtful talmid chacham known for his warmth and insight, Rabbi Hauer returns to his hometown prepared to guide the kehillah toward even greater heights of growth. He will also assume the role of Director of the Baltimore division of Relief Resources, a communal mental health referral organization.

Rabbi Hauer attended TA through 12th grade before continuing his learning at Ner Yisroel, the Brisker Kollel and the Mir Yeshiva. After returning from Eretz Yisrael in 2018, he learned and taught at the West Side Kollel of Manhattan. Most recently, he led outreach at the Schreiber Kollel at Fifth Avenue Synagogue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, while also delivering an evening halacha chaburah in Chestnut Ridge, New York.

Rabbi Hauer and his wife, Suri, are returning to Baltimore with their five children. Rebbetzin Hauer, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, will take on an instrumental leadership role within the kehillah, bringing her warmth, insight and dedication to the women and families of The New Shul.

Founded around Pesach 2025, The New Shul has quickly become a warm, high-energy home for nearly 100 young members and families. With beautiful tefillos and a strong sense of connection, it has blossomed into a vibrant center of growth and a cornerstone for young families in the community.
Since its founding, the shul has been led by Rabbi Shimon Barkin, who initially agreed to guide the kehillah on a temporary basis. His vision, leadership and devotion have been instrumental in shaping the shul and bringing it to where it is today.

The shul also expressed its deep appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Shimon Segelman, who have selflessly hosted the kehillah in their Greenspring Avenue home since its inception.

Now bursting at the seams, The New Shul is preparing for an upcoming building campaign and a move to its future home at the corner of Willow Glen and Greenspring avenues.

“The New Shul has developed an amazing and growing chevrah with a special energy,” said Shua Novograd, president of the shul. “We are excited to welcome Rabbi and Rebbetzin Hauer and look forward to seeing how their warmth and leadership will help us continue growing together and reach even greater heights.”

For founding member Avi Wolasky, Rabbi Hauer’s arrival carries both personal and communal significance.

“My father, Jerry Wolasky, is a longtime member of BJSZ and a was a dear friend of Rabbi Hauer, zt”l, whom he admired tremendously,” Wolasky said. “Having his son now serve as the Rav of our shul is deeply meaningful to me personally, but it represents something much greater as well. It is an opportunity for the entire Baltimore community to continue the remarkable legacy of Torah, leadership and care that Rabbi Hauer, zt”l, embodied.”
This Shabbos will mark the formal beginning of Rabbi and Rebbetzin Hauer’s leadership at The New Shul, connecting a treasured Baltimore legacy with the promising future of a young kehillah already making a meaningful impact on the community.
