Baltimore, MD - August 5, 2026 - Soaring beef prices and a shrinking domestic cattle herd are hitting the kosher beef market hard, and consumers expect to face shortages going into Yom Tov season.

Mr. Arie Benjamin, owner of Wasserman and Lemberger said his supplier just informed him that Salomon's beef prices are going up 10 percent. That's on top of a 30-percent hike during the past year and a half.

He said that other major brands have not yet said that they'll be raising prices, but they expect them to do as well.

There's no American meat out there. There's no cattle. This is going to be the hardest Yom Tov season for meat. People have to wake up early and have patience to get piece by piece, because there's not going to be much American meat available.

The high price of beef, means that the treif companies are buying less as well. So kosher slaughterers can't find enough treif companies to purchase the ( non- kosher) hindquarters from them.

Other major kosher meat companies right now are losing on every shechitah because they have to pay a premium on every cow slaughtered to cover the cost of the hindquarters, which they can't sell.

While one might expect that rising cattle prices would incentivize breeders to raise more cattle, they say that in fact the opposite is true: When beef prices go up cattle breeders are content with making the same income for less work and raising fewer cows.

Thank you for your understanding as we face these difficulties. Our strong suggestion to our customers to ensure availability , is to place your orders early and receive them as early as possible. The closer to Yom Tov the more difficult it will be to allow us to fill all orders with our usual top quality meats.

THANKS,

WASSERMAN AND LEMBERGER
