Annapolis, MD - April 5, 2025 - With the clock ticking on their 90-day session, Maryland lawmakers are meeting Saturday and expected to approve a state budget and a series of tax and fee increases.

Senate Budget and Taxation Committee Chairman Guy Guzzone announced a deal on a $67 billion budget Friday. It would close a $3.3 billion deficit with more than $1.6 billion in taxes.

The package includes a 3% tax on information technology services, a sales tax on vending machine purchases and a $5 fee on new tires.

Last-minute budget decisions are tied to House and Senate negotiations on the governor’s education plan. The chambers are at odds over how much to cut from the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future education funding formula.... Read More: WBAL
