Baltimore, MD - April 1, 2025 - Dear Friends:
The conversation of federally funded private school tuition scholarships has become more pronounced over the last number of months, especially since the current administration and congressional leadership took over in January.
In Maryland, while we are fortunate that the BOOST Scholarship Program appears to be safe once again for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, the program's impact is rather limited. Only families qualifying for Free and Reduced Meals (185% of federal poverty guidelines) are eligible to receive a scholarship, and due to the volume of applicants and state funding constraints, many eligible families are not awarded scholarships. Similarly, the Maryland 529 and its State Contribution Program/Match component has its limits and caps, and while definitely worthwhile to pursue, the impact is not limitless. (More information on both BOOST and 529, which are currently accepting applications, can be found on our website.)
NOW, however, the unprecedented opportunity for tuition scholarships that would literally be a GAME-CHANGER for Jewish day school households is gathering momentum in the form of the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA). The ECCA proposal would provide $10 billion in tax credits nationwide for contributions towards student scholarships. (Click here to read more about ECCA.) ECCA is the "talk of the town" in many parts of Washington and it will be considered in the coming days and weeks. Significant efforts are already underway to help make sure this effort advances successfully. It is imperative that we all contact our U.S. Representatives and encourage them to support this effort. And even if they don't support private school measures, they will have no doubt about how important this issue is to thousands of their constituents.
PLEASE take one moment to click here and TAKE ACTION!
Thank you for your participation!
