Jerusalem, Israel - Jan. 2, 2025  - Yerushalayim experienced cool nights and sunny days throughout Chanukah this year, perfect for the city’s many festive activities. But on the sixth night, heavy rains brought a chill, leaving streets gridlocked.

Inside the newly built Gandel Rehabilitation Center at Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus, warmth and unity prevailed. Soldiers in recovery, inpatients and outpatients and their families, and volunteers who come every Tuesday and their families, gathered for a heartwarming Chanukah celebration, organized by the OneFamily nonprofit, Jerusalem 5800, and the hospital’s Rehabilitation Department, led by Professor Isabella Schwartz.

The event, attended by over 150 people, featured Chanukah treats, children’s crafts, face painting, bracelet-making, live music, and a dairy buffet. In the hospital’s underground space, attendees gathered for the lighting of a large menorah and listened to speeches of gratitude and hope.

Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Arieh King praised the resilience and heroism of soldiers and their families.  Rina Yashar Yitzchak, volunteer coordinator at Hadassah, gave each family a plant as a symbol of regrowth: “Just as you are getting stronger, so will Israel.”

Kevin Bermeister, representing Jerusalem 5800, expressed solidarity with the soldiers, and Orella Bliah from OneFamily shared, “We are here for you and always will be. We are one family.”

OneFamily, under the leadership of CEO Chantal Belzberg and Chairman Marc Belzberg, played a key role in providing many holiday celebrations. The organization, which supports victims of terror and their families, hosted numerous Chanukah events, including a three-day camp for children who lost loved ones to violence and a special gathering for orphans who lost both parents.

Since October 7, the number of orphans and terror victims has risen dramatically, underscoring the importance of OneFamily’s mission. As the celebration concluded, a recovering soldier offered a heartfelt prayer—for the hostages, for peace, for healing, and all of Am Yisrael.
