Baltimore, MD - Feb. 2, 2024  - The defense in Marilyn Mosby’s second federal criminal trial rested its case Thursday after tense cross-examination of the defendant herself.

The trial was initially scheduled for three weeks. On Thursday, it appeared likely there may be a fourth week following more testimony from Mosby herself that, once again, came in fits and starts as attorneys on both sides squared off over legal issues without the jury present.

Mosby was indicted in January 2022 on federal perjury and mortgage fraud charges, which are going to trial separately. The government alleges she lied on loan applications during the purchase of two Florida vacation homes, a home in Kissimmee, Florida, in September 2020 and a condo in Longboat Key, Florida, in February 2021.

Mosby’s testimony began Wednesday after the court gave her extra time to mull it over. She answered questions from her attorney for about two hours, saying she was a novice when it came to real estate and that she trusted and followed the advice of her then-husband, her mortgage broker and her Realtor....
