Baltimore, MD - Sept. 28, 2023 At the annual Baltimore County Community Leader Summit I attended yesterday morning, the County’s Department of Planning announced a new grant opportunity for community organizations. The Community Improvement Grant is an opportunity for 501c3, 501c4, or 501c6 community organizations or nonprofits who serve residents in Baltimore County to apply for grants of $3,000 to $15,000 to implement physical projects in their communities, neighborhoods and business districts. (Organizations lacking such qualifications may be able to partner with qualifying organizations to participate.) Proposed projects must be capital in nature, so they must be projects which are likely to have a durability of 15 years or more, cannot be easily picked up and removed, and should benefit the overall community. Examples of eligible projects include playground, pocket-park or park enhancements, Commercial District directory kiosks, building improvements, benches, security cameras, bike racks, signage or planters, and other improvements. The 2023 deadline for applying is Thursday, November 16 at 3 p.m.

In addition, a larger but more exclusive grant opportunity for projects will be available. Such grants can be from $15,001 to $100,000 and will require an additional review and approval by senior staff designated by the County Executive. A request for funding above $100,000 will require a meeting with, and approval to proceed, by the Director of Planning. These requests will be available on a rolling basis after consultation with the designated County authority.
