Baltimore, MD - Aug. 22, 2023  -   In Baltimore City, a car is stolen every hour, and at least one carjacking occurs daily, as reported by Open Baltimore. A significant portion of these crimes are committed by juveniles, with some as young as 12 or 13, reports FOX45. Recently, an off-duty Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officer shot a 15-year-old attempting to carjack him. As of August 5, 2023, the city has seen 5,895 auto thefts, representing a 200% increase from last year. While carjackings have decreased, 289 have been reported this year. Some of these incidents have escalated into shootings or homicides. Despite concerns, the BPD has not clearly stated its plan to address this surge but hinted at a potential link to the recent violence in the city.
