Baltimore, MD - Oct. 16, 2025 - On Shemini Atzeres night, my wife and I were blessed with a newborn son. Little did I realize that on that same night, my Rebbi – one of the most impactful people in my life – would be taken from us without warning. I am in complete shock and cannot find the words at this moment to eulogize him in any way. But in truth, I don’t know if I ever will. Rabbi Hauer’s influence on me runs much deeper than words. As I sit here at my desk at 1:00 am with my shirt torn, the few words of eulogy - which we read just this morning - written by Hashem Himself over the death of his most trusted servant, Moshe - will have to suffice: וימת משה עבד ה'.Moshe Rabbeinu’s life was summed up in those two words, Eved Hashem. ...

Dovid Steingroot saved for a Sefer Torah - now we can complete it his memory
Reb Dovid — oh, how we miss you.
Your warmth, your sincerity, your constant growth in Torah and avodas Hashem — they left an indelible mark on everyone who knew you. You were a true example of someone who lived with purpose, always striving to fulfill your mission in this world.
Hashem, in His infinite wisdom, decided your mission was complete. Though it’s hard to accept, we know you accomplished more in your years than many do in a lifetime.

BaltimoreJewishLife.com (BJL) is proud to partner with STAR-K CERTIFICATION that realizes that there is no substitute for a person’s own Rav. In an effort to offer a possible solution, it has launched its Institute of Halachah as a public service. Over the years, the agency’s Kashrus Hotline has answered generic halachic questions from kosher consumers the world over, including inquiries regarding the kosher status of foods and certified Sabbath mode appliances. The formation of a separate official division within STAR-K testifies to the need for addressing these issues.
The Institute of Halachah is directed by HaRav Mordechai Frankel, under the guidance of HaRav Moshe Heinemann, STAR-K’s Rabbinic Administrator. It is an invaluable resource for a diverse array of rabbis to discuss general halachic matters, as well as gain access to source materials for shiurim and answers to congregants’ questions.
Shailos for regular or Kashrus shailos may emailed or discussed using this widget.

During the Second Temple, the Greek empire reigned (over Israel),1 and they (the Greeks) passed decrees against the Jews and (tried) to erase their religion, and did not allow them to carry out Torah (study) or the commandments. They put their hands on their property and their daughters. They entered the Temple, destroyed and made the pure unclean. The Jews were in great distress because of them and were much oppressed, until the G-d of their fathers had mercy on them, delivering them from their hands and saving them. Then overcame, the sons of the Hasmonean High Priest, (the Greeks) and killed them and saved the Jews from their hands. They appointed a king from the Priests, and the kingdom of Israel was restored for more than 200 years until the destruction of (the) second (Temple). When the Jews overcame their enemies and destroyed them, it was the 25th of Kislev2 when they entered the Sanctuary (inner room) and did not find pure (olive) oil in the Temple, except one jar sealed with seal of the High Priest, and it did not contain enough to light except for one day only. But they lit from it the lamps of the Menorah3 for eight days, until they could crush olives and produce a (new quantity) of pure oil. For these reasons, decreed the Sages of that generation that these eight days that begin on the 25th Kislev, will be days of joy and praise. One lights on them lamps at evening at the entrance to the houses, every evening of the eight nights to show off and demonstrate the miracle. These days are called ''Hanukah'' that is to say ''they rested'' (chanu) on the ''25'' ('th of the month) because on the 25th they rested from their enemies. and also because of those days they (re)-dedicated the house (Temple) which their foes had defiled. Also some say that it is a commandment to increase slightly the festive meals on Hanukah. Another reason is because the work of (building) the Sanctuary (in the desert) was completed in these days. One should tell one's children the story of the miracles that were done for our fore-fathers in those days, (see Josephus) However, these meals are not considered as part of the commandment unless one says at the meal songs of praise. One should increase charity in these Hanukah days, for this can help mend any defects in our souls. This charity, should be given particularly to poor Torah scholars. (KSA 139:1) 1) 352 BCE until 70 CE 2) 139 BCE 3) The Menorah was made of gold and had seven branches.

The Houthis have confirmed that their Military Chief of Staff, Muhammad Abd Al-Karim al-Ghamari, who was wounded in an Israeli airstrike, succumbed to his wounds.
The IDF confirmed the elimination, stating: "Following an IDF strike targeting senior members of the Houthi terror regime on August 28th, 2025, it is now confirmed that the Houthi Chief of the General Staff, Muhammad al-Ghamari, was eliminated."
Al-Ghamari was appointed Chief of Staff in 2016 after holding a series of senior positions in the Houthi terror regime. Over the years, he played a key role in building the military capabilities of the Houthi terror regime, particularly in establishing its missile systems and weapons-production infrastructure.
As part of his role, al-Ghamari received training by terrorists from the Hez...

נפלה עטרת ראשנו With a heart full of unspeakable sorrow, it is my terrible duty to share that Moreinu V'rabeinu, our teacher, our light and leader, Rabbi Moshe Hauer, has passed away. Rabbi Hauer זצוק"ל passed away suddenly on Shemini Atzeres night. It was the family's wish not to share this news on yom tov so that all the relatives could be properly informed. Instead of mourning on yom tov, we did together what made Rabbi Hauer happiest of all: we danced together, we sang together, we experienced yom tov as the kehillah hakedoshah that he so lovingly and painstakingly fashioned. I can only imagine what nachas he had from watching us be the shul that he wanted us to be. And now, we will mourn. The levaya and funeral details are still being arrang...

Rabbi Hauer’s leadership was marked by unwavering dedication, deep compassion, and a vision rooted in faith in Hashem, integrity, and love for Klal Yisrael. Whether through his inspiring words, thoughtful counsel, powerful advocacy, or quiet acts of kindness, Rabbi Hauer up...

“This is the first time in my life that I can actually say Chag Sameach.”
Jerusalem, October 14, 2025 - On the eve of Simchat Torah, exactly two years after the darkest day in recent Israeli history, hundreds of Nova Festival survivors gathered in Jerusalem for a profoundly healing and hopeful holiday culminating in the joyous Hachnasat Sefer Torah procession through the streets and into the Great Synagogue.
Kesher Yehudi planned to host the Nova survivors for the complicated Yom Tov for a second year in a row, “in the merit of our hostages returning home.” No one imagined they would be celebrating the return home of all of Israel’s living hostages earlier that very day.
The beautiful Yom Tov event was held at the Olive Tree Hotel. It included s...
