Baltimore, MD - June 11, 2026:
Q: Rabbi Schwartz, congratulations on becoming the new Executive Director of the Jewish Caring Network and Tikva House. What drew you to this role?
What drew me in is deeply personal. My wife and I have experienced what it means to have children facing life-threatening illness. We spent long periods in out-of-town hospitals, frightened and exhausted, without guidance or a place to stay. We learned firsthand that healing is not just about the patient—it requires a family to be there to help.
JCN and Tikva House exist to provide that support. We empower families to remain as their loved one's greatest source of healing, hope, and strength.
With diverse experience across rabbinic and financial sectors, and most significantly, as a JCN board member...

Baltimore, MD - June 8, 2026 - This past Sunday, four of the leading roshei yeshiva of Eretz Yisroel walked into Baltimore. Rav Yaakov Hillel, Rav Avraham Salim, Rav Yosef Chevroni, and Rav Chaim Mordechai Ausband left their yeshivos and traveled across the world because the Torah of Eretz Yisroel is fighting for its very survival, and they came to ask us to help carry it.
We watched a Rosh Yeshiva break down in tears as he described his fear for the bochurim who learn under constant threat, and another explain the contrast that in Eretz Yisroel the lomdei Torah are pursued and disgraced, yet here in Baltimore they are embraced.
From visits in private homes through the packed asifa at Shomrei Emunah, one message was repeated again and again: ish nidcheh, v'ein hatzibbur nidche...

Annapolis, MD - June 11, 2026 - Maryland officials are moving forward with a plan to require electric vehicle charger owners to register their devices with the state — and pay a fee — so that the chargers can be inspected.
State officials decided to lower the annual fee from $150 to $75 per charging port, after EV owners and charger companies expressed concerns earlier this year that the program could stymie the spread of chargers in Maryland. But some concerns linger.
“We’ve listened to the concerns, support and feedback shared by electric vehicle owners, local businesses and industry partners,” Maryland Agriculture Secretary Kevin Atticks said in a news release Thursday. “Reducing the registration fee allows us to continue supporting a reliable ...
Cincinnati, OH - June 11, 2026 - When Rabbi Chaim Tropp, a menahel in Cincinnati, heard that the city's first Rita's Italian Ice had opened, he decided to visit with his family.
As they entered the store, Rabbi Tropp and his family met the owner, an African American woman in her forties who greeted them warmly and professionally.
Wanting to verify that the store was indeed kosher certified, they respectfully asked to see the certification.
"It's right over here," she said proudly. "We're very happy to be certified. We very much want to accommodate the Jewish community."
Curious about her enthusiasm, Rabbi Tropp asked what made the certification so meaningful to her.
Her answer surprised them.
She explained that she had grown up in a rough neighborhood in Baltimore...
