Jerusalem, Israel - Nov. 4, 2021 - On Tuesday evening in Jerusalem, Israel, the opening for the new display in the galleries of the ancient items exhibited in the Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem (BLMJ) was held. Intermingled with the historical flow of the permanent exhibition were 90 works by 42 contemporary Israeli artists. The museum's stated goal is to enable a dialogue between distant periods of time throughout the museum alongside an inter-generational conversation within Israeli art.
Digging Down: Art of the Pre-Future is a group exhibition of Israeli artists whose main subject is archaeology: painting, sculpture, photography, video art, and sound.
The BLMJ was closed much of the past year because of the pandemic limitations. For the opening, a Green Pass was checked to enter the museum. Certain exhibition halls as "Gods, Heroes, and Mortals in Ancient Greece" had signs at the entrance with limits of people allowed at one time in the room.
A display model of the First Temple Period Sites has a prominent spot in the renovated first floor BLMJ hall.
In the words of BLMJ founder Dr. Elie Borowski, who is remembered at the entrance both inside and outside on the plaza, "The future of mankind has its roots in the past...only through understanding our history can we build a better future."
