Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, this evening (Thursday, 9 September 2021), commented on the overcrowding at the coronavirus testing facilities:
"I am aware of the scale of the overcrowding at the testing facilities and am monitoring the reports on the very long wait in the lines.
Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz and I are making a joint effort to deal with the situation forthwith.
We have taken several immediate steps to address the issue:
* From today (Thursday), around 130 testing crews are active (instead of 115), which means that approximately 5,000 additional people can be checked daily.
* All HMOs have been asked to take part in the effort.
* Local council heads have received a special allocation of around NIS 500,000 to operate ushers at the testing facilities.
* We are diverting resources to the most crowded centers.
Our policy is to maintain full daily routine alongside the Delta strain. This required that we put into operation the vaccination campaign, and we have done so, and also enact adjustments and show flexibility. If there are mishaps, we are fixing them and finding solutions.
We are celebrating the holidays of Tishrei with the family, without a lockdown, with children in school and an open economy. This is a considerable effort that requires unity on our part and patience on yours, the public."
