Approximately two weeks after the start of the third dose inoculation campaign, the State of Israel, today (Monday, 16 August 2021), crossed the threshold of one million people who have been inoculated with the third dose of the vaccine.

This is more than half of the population that can be vaccinated (approximately 1.9 million 50+ people for whom five months have passed since receiving the second dose).

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett:

"We have now reached one million citizens who have taken responsibility for themselves and those around them and have been inoculated with the third dose. While this is a marvelous figure and a great achievement but there is much work yet before us. Hundreds of thousands of people understand that our decision to take the third dose is the order of the day. The citizens of Israel are the first in the world to receive the third dose but it is not a given. Only this way can we safeguard both health and livelihood. Whoever has yet to be vaccinated – get vaccinated now."

Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz:

"The vaccine is the best tool we have in the fight against the Delta pandemic, to safeguard health, the economy and daily routine in Israel. We have seen to sufficient stocks of the vaccines for everyone who can get vaccinated. This is the time to use it. Inoculating one million people with the third dose in two weeks is a very nice achievement but it is not enough. Only if we continue inoculating people with the third dose – and citizens who have yet to be vaccinated at all – at a rapid pace, will we overcome the crisis without resorting to lockdowns."
