Maryland and Virginia both sent National Guard troops to Washington to help handle the Capitol riots. Since then, troops have remained in the city, however, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied both states' request for emergency declarations. 

“Based on our review of all the information available, it has been determined that supplemental federal assistance under the Stafford Act is not warranted for this event,” reads the letter sent to Gov. Larry Hogan.

Despite the news of the recent denial, Hogan has extended National Guard protection throughout the remainder of the month in Washington. Gov. Hogan sent 500 National Guard members and 200 state troopers to Washington on Jan. 6.
