Baltimore, MD - Oct. 24, 2019 - With the 13th cycle of Daf Yomi heading into its final masechta on Friday, a Lakewood-based commercial financing firm is doing its part to inspire people to commit to the daily learning program.
59 cities, including Baltimore, will be holding siyumim in conjunction with the global Siyum HaShas. Rabbi Labish Becker, executive director of Agudath Israel of America, said that excitement for Daf Yomi is spreading everywhere.
"The beauty of the Daf is that everyone feels a part of it and wants to promote it," said Rabbi Becker. "Daf Yomi is increasing in popularity and affords the learner the possibility to create their own style of learning, be it focused on lomdus, halacha or any other specific preference. It's incredible to see how proud both the learners and their families are to be part of this awesome achievement."
Eastern Union is offering a free hard cover Artscroll gemara to anyone who starts Daf Yomi now for the first time as the cycle continues with Maseches Niddah, giving those who sign up the ability to attend the Siyum Hashas on January 1st as participants instead of just spectators. The goal is to get people on board with Daf Yomi now, in the final days before the Siyum, in the hopes that they will continue on to complete Shas over the next seven and a half years.
Eastern Union president Ira Zlotowitz, son of Artscroll founder Rabbi Meir Zlotowitz, z’l, said that he was inspired to start Daf Yomi at the 2012 Siyum Hashas after hearing Rabbi Yissocher Frand speak about how it is never too late to join the program. Zlotowitz, Eastern Union’s managing partner Abraham Bergman, and many of its employees learn Daf Yomi, with the company offering an on site Daf Yomi and a 30 minute recording of the shiur emailed to participants.
“Most people really want to start learning the Daf,” Zlotowitz told Baltimore Jewish Life. “This is just an extra push to get them going.”
Zlotowitz said that Eastern Union is excited to share in the zechus of those who begin learning Daf Yomi.
The promotion was announced on Thursday and runs through midnight, October 26th. Those who sign up to get a free Artscroll Schottenstein Maseches Niddah will have free access to the Artscroll App for volume one of Maseches Niddah and Eastern Union’s recorded Daf Yomi shiur so that they can begin doing the Daf tomorrow. Since the gemaras will be shipped on Monday, October 28th, Eastern Union is offering the option of ordering either the first or second volume of Maseches Niddah and suggests to those ordering volume two to purchase a Gemara locally or to use the app or recorded shiur until their gemara is delivered.
