Jerusalem, Israel - July 11, 2019 - Jerusalem, Israel has been the scene of increasing research in technology, and the growing field of Biomedical and Medical technology. On Tuesday evening, July 9, JLM-BioCity, under the leadership of Joseph Van Zwaren and Yaron Suissa, held an evening event for six Biomed and pharma Startups to pitch their innovated therapies to a panel of investors at the Azrieli College of Engineering.
CONCENTER BIOPHARMA, the startup that has developed a novel drug to treat type-2 diabetes, was the first to pitch.
OMNYSENSE envisions taking the simple oral thermometer to a new level. Their device would transmit information about the patient from at home to medical professionals to diagnosis problems using real data.
OMNIX MEDICAL synthesis an antibiotic found in nature to respond to the imminent threat of antimicrobial resistance using peptides.
NEUROGENESIS offers injections of healthy neurons to combat neurodegenerative illnesses. Trial studies have shown success in seriously ill patients with these cell therapies.
VAXIL combats cancer using a vaccine for directed immunity.
VIRUCURE uses a virus to preferentially infect and kill cancer cells.
After the six impressive pitches investors Ilan Goldstein, Principal, Elan Global Group & Merchavia Group; Jonathan Goldstein, Director, Corporate R&D &Venture, Boston Scientific; Noga Yerushalmi, Head of M-Ventures; and Yuval Cabilly, General Partner, Israel Biotech Fund asked questions of the presenters.
In addition, the event enabled other bio-entrepreneurs to learn how to better pitch their start-ups and to acquaint themselves with investors. While there have been multiple organizations in Jerusalem sponsoring similar programs, and regular events by JLM-BioCity, this one was unique by hosting a visiting Chinese trade mission on their last night in Israel.
The event was sponsored by Azrieli College of Engineering and AtoBe, Azrieli College's Startup Entrepreneurship Center as well as the Orthodox Chamber of Commerce along with JLM-BioCity.

Also participating in the evening were Deborah Shaked, Head Pharma Engineering at Azrieli College; Fleur Hassan Nahum, Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem; and Lili Pergamenkov, Aspire & AtoBe of Azrieli College. Jacob Barondes, one of the summer interns at JLM-BioCity, is a student at the University of Maryland.
