Baltimore, MD - Jan. 15, 2024 - Here's our latest update on the upcoming snow event starting tonight into Tuesday morning. While there have been some minor changes, the overall picture remains the same – we're expecting accumulating snow for everyone.
Timing: The snowfall is coming a bit earlier than initially forecasted. Expect it to begin between 5 pm and 7 pm tonight, spreading from south to north. The most consistent snowfall, although not heavy, will occur overnight. By sunrise on Tuesday, it will start tapering off. A winter weather advisory is in effect until 10 am Tuesday.
Accumulation: We've adjusted the 3-5 inch zone slightly. The highest likelihood for 3 inches or more is in northern MD and extreme southern PA, with the possibility of isolated areas getting up to 5 inches. In other areas, a widespread 2-3 inch snowfall is expected. Due to the cold temperatures, the snow will stick to everything, including most roads.
Impact: Regardless of whether you receive 4 inches or just 1 inch of snow, impacts will be felt because the snow will stick to various surfaces. Even pre-treated roads may see accumulation since salt is less effective below 28 degrees, and temperatures are expected to be in the mid-20s while the snow is falling.
