Jerusalem, Israel - Mar. 28, 2019 - Under the bright midday sun, on Thursday, March 28, 2019, in the Har Herzl Cemetery of Jerusalem, Israel, lone soldier Alex Sasaki, z"l, from Los Angeles was given a solemn military funeral.

With no family in Israel, his parents and friends, the day before, had called out on social media for people to attend. And they came. People came. Hundreds, perhaps a thousand or more, as diverse as the Israeli population, and of all ages, stood as various military representatives spoke in Hebrew. Tears flowed, hugs were shared, as friends and the deceased's parents spoke in English of Alex's smile and desire to be a Golani soldier in the Israel Defense Force.

Parents, Shelley and Steve Sasaki, flew in for their son's funeral and were grateful for the support they received at the difficult time. The IDF personnel trained for such difficult situations, stood by the parent's side, translating to English, explaining what was happening, and offering support.

The Sasaki family will be sitting shiva at the Jerusalem Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Former Member of Knesset Dov Lipman spoke in English representing the government.

From Los Angeles Bracha spoke as friend of family.
