An Anne Arundel County sheriff's deputy is recovering Saturday after he was dragged by a car while trying to arrest a wanted woman.

The Sheriff's Office said the deputy was driving in the area of Magothy Bridge Road in Pasadena around 3:30 p.m. when he saw a woman in a car who was wanted on multiple warrants.

The deputy was able to get one handcuff on the woman, identified as Melissa Andrea Day, 46, of Severna Park, when the driver of the car, a man, sped off, dragging the deputy, the Sheriff's Office said.

The deputy sustained injuries to his head and body and was taken to Shock Trauma.

Day and the driver of the car were last seen running away.

State and Anne Arundel County police assisted the Sheriff's Office in a search for the suspects, but were unable to find them.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 410-222-1570.
