Police shot armed robbery suspects, one fatally, when getaway vehicle allegedly accelerated toward officers, Baltimore County police said.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD – One man died and two others were injured after officers shot at a vehicle during an armed robbery investigation Monday night in Woodlawn, Baltimore County police reported.

Rashad Daquan Opher, 20, of the 7900 block of Galloping Circle, has been pronounced deceased, police said Tuesday afternoon.

Opher and the two other individuals, who remain under police guard, were suspected in several robberies that happened between 4 p.m. and midnight Monday.

In one case, police said a hotel clerk in Woodlawn was seriously injured because a suspect violently hit the employee with a handgun.

As authorities were on the lookout for the suspects Monday evening, a patrol officer saw a man running away from the Royal Farms in the 6400 block of Windsor Mill Road around 11:45 p.m., according to police.

When another officer responded to check on those inside the store, he was notified the store had just been robbed, police reported.

The officers' investigation pointed them to a vehicle parked nearby with several people inside at the intersection of Walnut Street and Englewood Avenue.

As the police approached on foot, the vehicle started to accelerate toward them, authorities allege; the officers said they feared for their lives and opened fire, injuring three men inside the vehicle.

Medics took the men with serious injuries to area hospitals, where Opher later died.

Police said a handgun was found in the vehicle.

The suspects allegedly conducted armed robberies at liquor and convenience stores in the Wilkens and Woodlawn precincts. Charges were pending against the two men in the hospital as of Tuesday afternoon.

The officers who shot the two suspects were placed on administrative status and the shooting is under investigation, as is standard procedure. Body camera footage will be part of the investigation, although police said it is not being released at this time.

According to police, there is separate footage showing the suspects involved in various robberies. The Baltimore County Police Department issued this statement about the robbery investigations:

"Dating back to the beginning of 2017, the Robbery Unit has been investigating a significant number of armed robberies involving suspects of a similar description and methodology. This past weekend, at least five armed robberies were committed by these suspects at various liquor and convenience stores in the Wilkens and Woodlawn precinct areas. Police believe the suspects were working together and taking turns committing these robberies. Video from several of the crime scenes clearly depicts the suspects with handguns."
