Sara Netanyahu, yesterday (Wednesday, 20 September 2023), was invited to, and attended, a reception held by US First Lady Dr. Jill Biden in honor of the spouses of heads of state and government, to mark the opening of the 78th UN General Assembly.

Mrs. Netanyahu was warmly welcomed by US First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and spoke with her several times during the event. They discussed the challenges and opportunities facing children, efforts to empower women, children's rights, and ways to prevent trafficking in, injury to, and the suffering of children around the world. The two spouses also discussed the warm and successful meeting between US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

During the special event, Sara Netanyahu met with the wives of many leaders, including the wife of the Turkish President, Emine Erdogan, who invited the Prime Minister and his wife to visit Türkiye; the wife of the Ukrainian President, Olena Zelenska, this following their meeting in Jerusalem several months ago; as well as with the wife of the Cypriot President, Philippa Karsera, and the wife of the Greek Prime Minister, Mareva Mitsotakis, who met with Mrs. Netanyahu during Prime Minister Netanyahu's recent diplomatic visit to Cyprus.

Sara Netanyahu also met with the wife of the Belgian Prime Minister, Annik Penders, as well as with the wives of the leaders from Lithuania, Surinam, the Dominican Republic, Thailand and many additional countries.

Mrs. Netanyahu was warmly welcomed by the wives of the many leaders who were there.

Sara Netanyahu told US First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and the leaders' wives that as women, they have the power to try to effect change in the most painful places. She added that she had identified a serious problem regarding the suffering of children, including exploitation, abduction and trafficking. She said that they had to do everything to eradicate these difficult phenomena and stated that they could not stand idly by while children were suffering.
