Jerusalem, Israel - Mar. 22, 2023 - The Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism held Diaspora Week events for the eighth time from March 19 - 23, 2023.

The week takes place following government resolution 1656 and is held every year with the purpose of strengthening the ties and mutual support between the State of Israel and its citizens and the Jewish people living in the Diaspora. This year, Diaspora Week was held in collaboration with AM”I (the Gesher organization) and various public bodies including the Ministry of Education, the IDF, local government, the Jewish Agency, pre-military academies, Masa, and the ANU Museum.

Amichai Chikli, the Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism stated "I see this week as an excellent opportunity to strengthen the bond and deepen the relationship with our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora. We are all one people, sharing a common purpose and destiny and, above all, the highest obligation to strengthen the State of Israel as the national home of the Jewish people.”

The highlight of the week was the main event produced in collaboration with the Israel National Event and Ceremony Authority, under the title #FOREVER_AM which took place on Wednesday night, March 23, Rosh Chodesh Nissan 5783, at the Jerusalem Theater in Jerusalem, Israel.  The event was conducted in Hebrew and English and was broadcast live.

Major General Doron Almog, Chairman of the Jewish Agency spoke of first of his military career, then of his son, and now of the importance of the Jewish Agency: “Diaspora Week is an opportunity for us to strengthen the ties and the mutual support between the State of Israel and Diaspora Jewry, without dispute – we are more alike than we are unlike."

This year, Diaspora Week commemorates the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel. Almog sees the opportunity to express appreciation and to get to know Jewish brothers and sisters in the Diaspora who are an inseparable part of the Jewish people. The Jewish Agency marks its 75th anniversary with a heartfelt connection to Jewish people from all walks of life.

Also called to the stage to speak was Yaakov Hagoel the Chairman of the Executive of the World Zionist Organization.  President Isaac Herzog sent a video message which was shown at the beginning of the program.

Unity. Am Yisrael is One was the theme throughout the lively-paced program.

Leading Israeli artists and the IDF choir performed at the event for the enthusiastic live audience which included young people from various youth groups and Israeli Scouts, and the IDF.

The evening's host Chikli was one of the last to leave the Sherover Theater. Taking selfies, and speaking with audience members, it felt as if the Minister was the last one leaving shul after an elaborate kiddush.
