Baltimore, Md - June 27, 2022:

Dear JCC Friends,

Keeping our JCC community safe is of upmost importance. We wanted to share that this morning we received an email bomb threat on a website information form. As per our security protocols, we immediately notified our security consultant and local authorities. The local police conducted extensive sweeps of both JCC campuses accompanied by members of our executive and senior management teams. Both JCCs have remained fully operational.

Unfortunately, we have received many of these non-credible threats over the past few months--as have multiple JCCs across North America. We are working with our local precinct, the FBI, and the Secure Community Network (SCN) to help determine the source of these threats. SCN is the official homeland security and safety initiative of the organized Jewish community in North America.

In following the advice of our local police, the FBI and our local security consultants, the recommendation has been to “sweep” both JCC buildings and campuses in lieu of evacuation as the threats have consistent language and are deemed non-credible.  As in past instances, the police arrive quickly (and quietly) to complete a full sweep of each JCC building and campus.

Please be assured that we will continue to do everything possible to ensure our community feels safe and secure at the JCC. We have significant security protocols and personnel at the JCC and are fortunate to work closely with our local police and security consultants. We also constantly remind our staff, members, and visitors to “Say something if you see something”.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Paul Lurie, Chief Operating Officer at plurie@jcc.org.

Our best always,
Barak Hermann, JCC CEO
