Agudath Israel of America is joining other national nonprofits in urging Congress to take steps to help charities continue their vital work. Nonprofits, like other entities, suffered terrible losses in resources during the period of the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, nonprofits have been asked to step up to provide communities the relief, recovery and rebuilding services that are so desperately needed.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Agudath Israel has successfully worked with Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY), others on Capitol Hill, and organizational partners, to ensure that nonprofits, including religious entities, would be included in the benefits of COVID relief efforts, both as providers and beneficiaries.

The government does not plan to evict Arab residents of Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood over a property dispute in light of how heated the matter has become, according to a source close to Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
The High Court of Justice scheduled a hearing for Monday on the eviction of four Palestinian families from Sheikh Jarrah, the east Jerusalem neighborhood known in Hebrew as Shimon Hatzadik. Lower courts have upheld claims that the property is owned by the Nahalat Shimon Company, which seeks to develop the land for Jewish housing.
Even if the verdict allows for the eviction of the Palestinian residents, the court is unlikely to order the state to enact it or give a deadline to do so, the source close to Bennett said, adding that the government w...

Hearing to investigate attack on January 6 gets underway on Capitol Hill with harrowing testimony
Wiping away tears, a police officer told a rapt US congressional hearing Tuesday he believed "this is how I'm going to die" while defending the Capitol on January 6 against a rampaging mob branding him a traitor.
Another recalled how he was beaten unconscious by rioters supportive of then-president Donald Trump and said he "went to hell and back" protecting US lawmakers and the citadel of American democracy.
The gripping accounts served as opening testimony in a landmark hearing of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack, which opened with hair-raising videos of the deadly attack.
But it was the dramatic personal recollections of officers under siege by...
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is holding up a bill intended to formalize Congressional approval of the Abraham Accords over last minute amendments that significantly water down support for Israel, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
On July 24, Cruz released a statement explaining his reasons for removing himself as co-sponsor of the Israel Relations Normalization Act of 2021.
Cruz stated that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee re-wrote the bill at the last minute to declare that pushing for a Palestinian state is US policy and authorizing the transfer of millions of dollars to the Palestinian Authority. It also overturned longtime US policy with regard to supporting Israel in negotiations with the PA.
“Too many American lawmakers have forgotten that Israel is one of...

Unilever CEO Alan Jope informed Anti-Defamation League (ADL) chairman Jonathan Greenblatt that his company does not support the BDS movement against Israel after its subsidiary Ben & Jerry's announced that it was pulling its products from Judea and Samaria.
Jope wrote in a letter to Greenblatt that Unilever maintains a “strong and longstanding commitment to our business in Israel” and that the company “looks forward to investing in our business in Israel long into the future.”
He called the decision a "complex matter" due to the arrangement Unilever has with the Ben & Jerry's board and the independence granted to the board "to take decisions in accordance with its social mission," but emphasized that Ben & Jerry's "will remain in Israel ...
A Swastika was found carved into the wall of a State Department elevator Monday, near the office of the envoy to combat anti-Semitism, Axios reported.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is Jewish, condemned the incident in an email to State Department employees Tuesday.
"The hateful graffiti has been removed and this incident will be investigated," Blinken wrote, calling anti-Semitism an "abhorrent" hatred that "has no place in the United States, at the State Department or anywhere else."
"To our Jewish colleagues: please know how grateful we are for your service and how proud we are to be your colleagues," he added.
Blinken was not at the State Department at the time of the incident, but is on a trip to India and Kuwait.

Members of the committee that oversees the allocation and management of shortened phone numbers in the Ministry of Communications officially recommended to the Minister of Communications, Yoaz Hendel, not to cancel the emergency number that has been allocated to United Hatzalah’s Dispatch and Command Center. United Hatzalah’s emergency number of 1221, serves as the organization’s method of receiving phone calls from those who are injured or sick and in need of emergency medical care, as well as request for humanitarian aid. The Health Ministry, under the leadership of the former Health Minister Yuli Edelstein, also recommended to the committee not to cancel the number of 1221. The demand by Magen David Adom to cancel United Hatzalah’s number of 1221, arrived at the ...
Baltimore County, MD - July 27, 2021 - I am delighted to share the news that the Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation has approved a new left turn signal to be added to the northbound only direction of Greenspring Avenue where it meets Smith Avenue. This should greatly enhance safety at this important intersection and for residents in the greater Pikesville area. I want to thank the many residents who have worked with our office to help move this issue forward and push for this improvement.
From Kristoffer Nebre of DPW Transportation: “We have conducted a traffic study at this location and as a result I am pleased to inform you about the conclusions of the study, which is for a [new] left turn signal to be added to the northbound-only direct...
A mixed vaccination of first AstraZeneca and then a Pfizer COVID-19 shot boosted neutralizing antibody levels by six times compared with two AstraZeneca doses, a study from South Korea showed.
The study involved 499 medical workers — 100 receiving mixed doses, 200 taking two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech shot and the remainder getting two AstraZeneca shots.
All showed neutralizing antibodies, which prevent the virus from entering cells and replicating, and the result of the mixed schedule of vaccines showed similar amounts of neutralizing antibodies found from the group that received two Pfizer shots.

Donald Trump, Jr. has the highest favorable rating among seven top Republicans, a recent poll finds.
A recent poll of 800 GOP voters conducted by Fabrizio, Lee & Associates for Axios found that the first-born son of former President Donald Trump has the highest favorability rating (55%), leading Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (54%) by one point.
Trump Jr., who appears to have the best connection with the party’s base, and perhaps the best prospects for a 2024 White House run if his father opts out, led the group with DeSantis coming in a close second, followed by House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy (24%), Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., (17%), Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., (8%), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., (2%), and Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wy., a vehement Tru...
Public approval ratings of COVID-19 media coverage are declining as the pandemic wears on and debates over vaccinations, vaccine passports, and face mask mandates continue.
In fact, there has been an 8-point decline in the public view of the media’s handling of the pandemic since the last month of the Trump administration.
Just 14% of American adults rate the media’s COVID-19 coverage excellent, and another mere 28% rate the media coverage of the ongoing pandemic as good, giving a combined 42% positive view of media’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll.
Islamic Republic struggling to contain outbreak of highly contagious delta variant
Iran on Tuesday set a record for daily COVID-19 cases for a second straight day as the highly contagious delta variant quickly spreads across the Middle Eastern country, prompting authorities to impose new restrictions.
Health officials registered more than 34,900 new infections, topping the previous record set just a day earlier of 31,814 cases.
The Islamic Republic recorded 357 COVID-19 fatalities on Tuesday, bringing the total death toll to 89,479 — the highest in the Middle East.
The government last week scrambled to introduce new curbs to attempt to limit the outbreak caused by the delta variant currently circulating globally. The restrictions included a week-long lockdown in the capital Teh...
Judoka Saeid Mollaei says he hopes 'the Israelis appreciate this achievement'
Iranian defector Saeid Mollaei dedicated his silver medal to Israel after competing in the final of the men’s judo 81-kilogram division on Tuesday at the Tokyo Olympics.
“This medal is also dedicated to Israel and I hope the Israelis appreciate this achievement,” Mollaei said, according to Israel’s Kan public broadcaster.
Mollaei, who represents Mongolia, claimed his first Olympic medal two years after leaving his native Iran after being ordered to lose in the semifinals of the 2019 world championships in Tokyo to avoid facing Israel’s Sagi Muki in the final.
National health insurance funds can start vaccinations for high-risk group
The Israeli Health Ministry on Tuesday authorized the vaccination of immunocompromised children aged five to 11 against the coronavirus.
The ministry has informed the country's health insurance funds that they can start vaccinations for this high-risk group.
Children in the age group will receive a lower dose of the vaccine at 10 micrograms instead of 30 micrograms.
Situations where a child could be eligible for the vaccine include severe obesity, neuro-developmental disorders, severe chronic lung disease, severe immunosuppression, cancer, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension and those with sickle cell anemia.
A total of 2,112 cases of coronavirus were recorded in 24 hours out of 92,707 ...
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to recommend Tuesday that fully vaccinated people begin wearing masks indoors again in places with high Covid-19 transmission rates, according to people familiar with the matter.
Federal health officials still believe fully vaccinated individuals represent a very small amount of transmission, according to the sources. Still, some vaccinated people could be carrying higher levels of the virus than previously understood and potentially transmit the virus to others, they said.
The updated guidance comes ahead of the fall season, when the highly contagious delta variant is expected to cause another surge in new coronavirus cases and many large employers plan to bring workers back to the office.
