Israelis abroad who want to travel home with their children must now commit to nationalizing them

After waiting one year to visit family due to the pandemic, children of Israeli citizens who have yet to acquire an Israeli passport must now commit to doing so before flying home.  These new regulations come as a shock to families who already made plans to return this summer.

"I was shocked that I saw that under the law I have to apply for Israeli citizenship for my daughter in order for her to visit in Israel," said Charlotte Cohn, an Israeli citizen living in New York for 20 years, according to The Jerusalem Post. She added that they visited many times before and never had any demands to nationalize her daughter. 

During the pandemic, parents applied for special dispensation from their local consulate to bring their children into the country without Israeli passports. According to new guidelines, parents must commit to obtaining Israeli passports for their children within 60 days of their return date. Read more at i24
