Two people aboard a military jet died after it crashed near an airport in Alabama on Friday evening, officials said.

A military plane was flying from Columbus, Mississippi, to Tallahassee, Florida, when it crashed in a wooded area near the Montgomery Regional Airport around 5 p.m.

Marshall Taggart Jr., the executive director of the regional airport, said it is unclear what caused the plane to crash.
